Evaluware FAQs
Q What is EvaluWare?
A EvaluWare is a series of open-ended assessment activities designed to help you determine the best computer access methods and ideal Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) setups for people with special needs.

Q For whom is it designed?
A EvaluWare is designed to be used by clinicians, educators and AT specialists.

Q Is the software better suited for a beginner or for an experienced professional?
A Both! If you're new to assessments, you can follow EvaluWare's framework or use the on-screen tips and sample questions to help guide the process. If you're a seasoned professional, you can choose from EvaluWare's 350+ interactive screens to determine the best combination of activities for your client or student.

Q What documentation comes with EvaluWare assessment software?
A EvaluWare includes an easy-to-read User's Guide.

Q What skill areas are addressed in the software and User's Guide?
A
  • Looking Skills - determine optimum target size, number of targets, level of representation
  • Listening Skills - determine voice preference, sound feedback and volume setting
  • Motor Skills - determine input method and settings
  • Other related skills - determine readiness for on-screen keyboard, word prediction, etc.

Q What is the research behind EvaluWare?
A EvaluWare was developed in conjunction with Dr. Howard Shane, the Director of the Communication Enhancement Center (CEC) at Children's Hospital in Boston, MA. A majority of the focal areas of EvaluWare-size, number and position of targets; following directions; Wh- question comprehension; vocabulary categories and arrangement; early language comprehension; and the EvaluWare Report Form-grew directly out of a Communication Aid Configuration guide that Dr. Shane developed over many years of performing evaluations for device selection.

Q Can it help me modify tests for universal access?
A Yes. With the Test Modification screens, EvaluWare provides suggestions about how to make tests more accessible to individuals with physical challenges. Use the ready-made screens to administer modified tests on your computer.

Q Can I generate a report from the assessment?
A Yes, EvaluWare allows you to record your findings in two ways. Use the on-screen report to type in preferences and settings during the evaluation, then save or print the report, even complete it later. Or, you can use the printed report form (included) to write down results as you go.

Q My learners often get bored with assessment software. Is there anything fun or unique about your software to keep them engaged?
A Yes. The "Fun & Games" section gives the user additional opportunity to practice input skills in some recreational settings.

Q Can I use a Discover Switch with EvaluWare?
A Yes. If you are using Discover:Switch software from Don Johnston, Inc. you can use one of the two switch setups provided with EvaluWare.
