People of all abilities should have access to this full spectrum of communication as well as to other ways of interacting with the world such as the Internet and a wealth of computer applications. Effective augmentative communication systems should enable users to say what they want to say using their own preferred method and vocabulary, and to do so as quickly and effortlessly as possible.
Socially Speaking was designed with all this in mind. Developed by speech pathologists with input from AAC users, Socially Speaking is a text-based augmentative communication and computer access program that caters to the unique needs, interests, and communication styles of literate communicators.

Quick, customizable and effective communication
- Pages for using word and phrase prediction and for typing words.
- Easy access to 775 of the most frequently occurring words in spoken English.
- Alphabetized, color-coded vocabulary and visual anchors for ease in finding words.
- Access to over 1,000 high frequency words plus standard dictionaries of 5,000 to 50,000 words in topical dictionaries.
- "Next Word" prediction based on each communicator's individual writing style.
- "Smart" phrase prediction for speed of communication with access to over 600 ready-made, user customizable phrases derived from usage research.
- Quick access to verb tenses, common word endings, and more.
- Ability for users to add family and friends' names, favorite places, and personal phrases.
- User-switchable QWERTY, Alphabetical, and Frequency of Use keyboards.
- Designed for all access methods, including eye gaze.
Computer access
- Keyboard and mouse emulation access to all computer software and functions, instant messaging, the Internet and e-mail.
- Ability to compose e-mail using the communication pages or a keyboard and to have e-mail messages read back.
- On-screen keyboards for access to common computer software applications.

Socially Speaking requires VS Communicator 4 Standard from Viking Software for face-to-face communication and access to computer applications. Complete functionality, including e-mail, requires VS Communicator 4 Premium.
