Professional Development Programs
Stages Training Workshops Workshops are designed for school-based special education team members serving students with developmental delays. Select a Stages workshop based on the goals of your district. Workshops may be presented by your choice of an ATI Certified Trainer or Madalaine Pugliese, the author of Stages.

Alternate Assessment-Beginner
This workshop presents software tools to assess skill levels of learners with cognitive and language delays.

Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will learn strategies to perform the following assessment techniques using Stages Assessment Kits.

  • Utilize accessible, activity-based software tools that measure and record student performance.
  • Analyze, summarize, and report student performance data to aid instructional decision-making regarding technology.
  • Record behavioral and effective measures on Observation Forms to provide complete portfolio assessment of student skills.
  • Define measurable objectives to monitor progress toward achieving stated goals regarding technology.

Curriculum-Beginner
This workshop presents a systematic approach for selecting appropriate software for individual learners within the Stages framework.

Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will learn strategies for selecting appropriate practice software, and for customizing recommended software for individual learners.

  • Identify the operational stage in which a student is working as defined by the Stages framework.
  • Understand procedures for evaluating computer software and other technology materials for their potential application in special education programs.
  • Identify elements of the special education curriculum for which technology applications are appropriate and ways in which they can be implemented.
  • Identify and operate software that meets educational objectives for students in multiple educational environments.

Stages Report Wizard-Beginner
This workshop is designed to teach Stages users how to use Stages Report Wizard to extract and present data and show a learner's achievement over time.

Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will learn how to achieve the following through using Stages Report Wizard.

  • Manage previously collected learner performance data and create custom learner profiles.
  • Examine individual assessment session information.
  • Graphically represent skill accuracy and learner independence over time.
  • Create content mastery tables and overall summary reports.
  • Work with learner data to begin the process of formalizing alternate assessment reporting (full day only).
This training is offered in a half day session for participants who have had some exposure to Stages, and in a full day session for participants who have more extensive experience with Stages.

The Alternate Assessment Workshop is a prerequisite to the Stages Report Wizard Workshop.

Implementation Strategies-Advanced
This workshop is designed to help Stages users maximize the effectiveness of using Stages assessment and curriculum software with their learners.

Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will learn to:

  • Interpret Stages Observation Forms and computer-generated Reports.
  • Plan appropriate timing between assessments.
  • Determine when and how to progress from Stage to Stage during assessments.
  • Establish successful coaching strategies.
  • Design extension activities.
  • Share information with colleagues and parents.
The Alternate Assessment Workshop and Curriculum Workshop are prerequisites to this advanced workshop.

Certified Evaluator Program—Train-the-Trainer
This program prepares educators and assistive technology professionals to implement the Stages framework to assess skills and select appropriate software for students with special needs. The course focuses on teacher training and using "best practices" strategies when evaluating student performance.

Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will learn to:

  • Present Stages software to colleagues using ATI's Product Overview and Software Demo CD.
  • Present a hands-on Stages Assessment Workshop.
  • Utilize handouts and appropriate support materials for Stages.
  • Report results, recommend software and curriculum ideas at IEP meetings.
  • Use report graphing and analysis software-Stages Report Wizard
  • Support others during Stages assessments.
The Alternate Assessment Workshop, Curriculum Workshop and Implementation Strategies Workshop are prerequisites to the Certified Evaluator Program, a one-day workshop.

Workshops are presented by ATI Certified Trainers or special arrangements may be made to schedule the author of Stages, Madalaine Pugliese.
